Sedona is located approximately 30 miles south of Flagstaff, Arizona at the foot of the beautiful Oak Creek Canyon. Famous for its spectacular scenery with its colorful red rocks and scenic vistas, Sedona attracts more than 2 million visitors each year. And they're in good company. The Hollywood directors of the past were also smitten by the marvellous scenery in and around Sedona. The "cowboys" that used to grace the silver screen often did so against the backdrop of these wonderful hills.
History
Sedona was first settled by pioneers in 1877. In 1899, the area including Los Abrigados Resort and Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village and Creekside Plaza was settled by a T.C. Schnebly and his family. In fact, Sedona was the name of Mr. Schnebly's wife.
In 1917 the U.S. Forest Service constructed a Ranger Station on Brewer Road. In part to sevice this station, a pump house was constructed in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. This building which is a designated city landmark is located on the Creekside Plaza grounds. Be sure to drop by for a visit.
